Hiya! Welcome to my website. I offer expert tuition in singing and music theory. Have a look around and email me if you have any questions.
expert tuition tailored for you
A one-to-one lesson can consist of a vocal warm up, exercises suitable for your current needs, and learning and refining pieces. Musical theatre singers will also work on their acting skills.
My students come for lessons for all sorts of reasons - some just because they like singing, some want to do grades, some people need help with school and college work.
I specialise in adolescent voices, but I take students from the age of 8 years old up to adult.
I have been teaching for nearly 20 years. Where does the time go? In that time I have gained BA Hons and PGCE at University of Southampton, an MA in music with the Open University. I've also done countless grades and a diploma in various instruments, music theory, and research.
More recently I have trained in Estill Voice Training, a fantastic, scientific way of looking at how the voice works. I am now taking that knowledge further and continuing my professional development.
Lastly, I am a registered teacher with the ISM, a musicians union which also takes care of my DBS and insurance.
My tutors at ICTheatre are very impressed with my vocal abilities. Carrie's teaching and helping me prepare for uni means that I have made an excellent start on my course.
Carrie's combination of warmth, professionalism and sheer teaching talent has changed my daughter’s voice from a quite nice sound into something that still surprises me when she gives us a chance to listen ... and through this, she has brought a new confidence and joy into [my daughter's] life.
In my life I have worked with many different
styles of music. I have years of experience as a musical theatre performer, cabaret singer, and actor.
I specialise in Musical Theatre and Contemporary Commercial Music (popular music styles). Singing students have sung songs by artists such as David Bowie and Taylor Swift. And they have covered musicals such as Matilda and Chicago. And then there's Disney, you
can't forget Disney.

Show Off originated in February 2016. Show Off Musical Theatre Choir was born and brought together people who love show tunes and who love to sing.
Over the years, students and choir come together to perform in concerts, raise money for charity, and do the odd bit of socialising.
Show Off looks like a brand but it's more of a belief. Everyone shows off - either on stage, at karaoke, in your kitchen, or maybe only in your thoughts. One thing is true:
When you're learning to play or sing music from notation then you need
to know the basics of music theory. I can teach you the very basics all
the way up to degree level.
I teach the ABRSM music theory grades from 1 - 8. If you're
doing grades with ABRSM and have taken Grade 5 on your instrument(s)
then you need to take Grade 5 theory in order to progress.
Give me a call or email if you need some help. I quite enjoy doing theory. It's very strange.
It's easy to feel a bit lost or get a bit stuck. You might need a little more support. Drop me an email if you need extra assistance
If you're composing for GCSE, BTEC or A-Level remember that your work
has to be entirely your own and done in supervised conditions at school
or college. What I can help you with is:
° How to compose a theme or leitmotif
° How to develop a melody
° Finding implied harmony
° Researching your influences
° Planning a storyboard
Please remember that I can not do your composition for you. I
cannot help you structure your composition, that is what you do in
school or college under supervised conditions.
I will also keep a report of your work and communicate with
your school or college should they request it.
